Royal Australian Mint

Royal Australian Mint was opened on February 22 in the year 1965. The objective of opening Royal Australian Mint Canberra was to produce Australia’s decimal coinage. This decimal coinage was circulated to the public on February 14, 1966. As per the history of the global mint is concerned, Canberra Royal Australian Mint is the first mint of its kind, which was not a branch of Royal Mint based in England.

Right from opening of Royal Australian Mint Canberra Australia till today, the mint has so far produced huge amount of coins to be circulated for the public usage,. More is expected to be produced by the Royal Australian Mint in the days to come.



Now Royal Australian Mint has taken the responsibility to produce coins for Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Western Samoa, Cook Islands, Samoa, Fiji, Malaysia etc. Royal Australian Mint Canberra also manufactures medals, medallions, seals and tokens to be used for public and private sectors usage. Canberra Royal Australian Mint also manufactures and other items for sports and different tourism organizations. Glaring examples are The Order of Australia, Sydney Monorail Token etc various other organizations.

The mint remains open to the public on the following days and on the following timings:

Monday to Friday- 9 am to 4 pm

Saturday, Sunday and other Public Holidays- 10 am to 4 pm

Royal Australian Mint remain closed for the public visit on Christmas Visit and Good Friday.

There is no admission imposed on the visitors for the public during the visit to the museum.
